Cumberland Market Relocates to Canal Place in 2023

Cumberland’s Thursday Farmers Market Reopens April 27

Cumberland, MD– The Allegany Farmers Market Association’s 2023 season opens Thursday April 27th from 9:30 am - 1:00 pm in its new location at Canal Place. From April through October, the association hosts 4 farmer’s markets throughout Allegany County. Information about all 4 markets is available on the website at alleganyfarmersmarkets.com.

After decades downtown on Baltimore St., the Thursday market in Cumberland prepares for relocation to the Canal Place Stage at 17 Howard St. The new location is situated at the Canal Place Stage and surrounding courtyards, and is accessible via the Howard St. entrance to Canal Place. The new venue will offer customers easier access to parking and restroom facilities, as well as access to the lawn for activities and enjoyment.

New market location compelled by downtown development efforts. The Thursday Market relocation comes as part of Downtown Cumberland’s revitalization and historic preservation efforts. Representatives of the City of Cumberland, and the consulting firm hired to support preservation, are seeking citizen input, and will be in attendance at the May 4th market to receive public comment. Contact Ruth Davis – Rogers,

Historic Preservation Planner, at (301)759-6431 or at ruth.davis-rogers@cumberlandmd.gov for more information.

Live music will be featured at Thursday Farmers Market. Thanks to the generous support of the Downtown Development Commission, Thursday markets will once again feature live acoustic music throughout the season. This series is scheduled in conjunction with the Levitt AMP Music series supported by the Allegany Arts Council. Opening Day music on April 27th will feature the Frankfort Middle School Teal Steel band. Visit the website at alleganyfarmersmarkets.com for a full list of live performances scheduled for Thursday’s Cumberland Market.

The Frostburg Farmers Market will reopen Friday May 19th from 9:30am-1:00pm near City Place at 14 S. Water St. The remaining Cumberland markets are returning to the same time and place, and begin June 10th. Customers can access the Saturday market from 9:30am-1:00pm in the parking lot near the Western Maryland Scenic Rail Train Depot at 13 Canal St. The Monday market held from 2:00pm-5:00pm returns to Allegany College of Maryland beginning June 12.
